The 1966–67 season of the European Cup football club tournament was won by Celtic for the first time in the final against Internazionale, who eliminated defending champions Real Madrid in the quarter-finals, making them the first British team, as well as the first and last Scottish team to date, to win the coveted trophy. The Soviet Union entered its champion for the first time this season.
Teams
[edit]A total of 33 teams participated in the competition.
Thirty-two leagues were represented, most by their most recent domestic champion. Spain, however, was represented by two clubs: domestic champion Atlético Madrid and defending European Cup champion Real Madrid.
Real Madrid made their twelfth consecutive appearance in the competition, while CSKA Red Flag made their eighth appearance and Dukla Prague and Anderlecht each made their seventh.
Debutants included Waterford, Admira Energie Vienna, Torpedo Moscow, Omonia, 1860 Munich, Vålerenga, Vojvodina, and Celtic.
Celtic joined Inter Milan (1963–64) and Real Madrid (1955–56) as just the third team to win in their debut.
